Tips For Online Diamond Jewellery Buying
Choosing to Buy a diamond ring online has become more prevalent in recent years. There are many reasons for this. The internet allows consumers to compare hundreds of different rings at the click of a button, or rather, a few clicks. Diamonds are no longer something to be found in your local mall or stone shop, or even at the estate of an older relative. Nowadays, consumers can shop online for their engagement rings, wedding bands, and any other type of diamond they might find. And with the advancement of digital imaging technologies, consumers can shop for diamonds and get to know their stone almost like they were in a physical store.
The 4 Cs of Diamond Quality
There are four factors that you need to consider when buying a diamond. These are colour, cut, clarity, and carat. Let us take a look at them one by one.
Diamond Colour
When buying a diamond ring, you want to make sure it is a good colour match. Diamonds fall into one of four categories: yellow, orange, blue, or clear. Yellow and orange are best matched with red, green, or black, while clear gives you a chance to see the colour before purchasing it. The easiest way to check out the colour is to look at a side by side picture of a natural stone or a carbon diamond.
Diamond Cut
Cut refers to how a diamond cut and polished by the diamond cutter. This aspect of diamond quality describes the symmetry and proportions of the gemstone and the skill used in polishing the diamond's facets. The centre stone in most diamond engagement rings is typically round, but many people choose a square, pear, emerald, trillion, or oval shape of diamond for their engagement ring. All these shape and size factors can affect how the stone looks.
Diamond Clarity
Clarity refers to the presence of minute defects that would otherwise mar a natural stone. However, the quality of these imperfections varies from one diamond to another. For example, while flawless diamonds might appear clear under magnification, others have visible inclusions that light cannot penetrate.

Diamond Carat
Carat refers to weight. A carat is 1/5 of a gram. A carat is subdivided into fractions of a carat; for example, 0.5 carat is half a carat. Less commonly today, weight is sometimes referred to as 'points'. A carat has 100 points, so a half-carat diamond weighs 50 points. This number, coupled with the colour, clarity, cut, and colour of the stone, gives you an idea of the diamond's quality.
Paying For Your New Diamond Ring
Most people pay for their new diamond ring using a credit or debit card, but these are not the only choices that you have! When you buy online, many jewellery stores offer alternative ways to pay. For example, you might be offered the option to pay by bank draft or to use PayPal. Many of All Diamond's customers choose to pay over several months with no interest payments. All Diamond has partnered with Klarna to offer repayment in 3 instalments with no finance charges. If you wish to pay over a more extended period, then a low finance charge applies. You can make the application for financing when in the All Diamond shopping cart.
Make Sure That You Are Buying A Quality Diamond Ring!
Diamond Certification
Earlier in the article, we covered the 4Cs of diamond quality. When you buy online, you cannot see the diamond or the precious metals used. This makes assessing quality a little more complicated than buying from a high street retailer or a mall shop. To protect yourself, make sure that the diamonds in your diamond jewellery are accompanied by a certificate of quality from a reputable diamond grading organisation such as the GIA (Gemological Institute of America). This way, you can be sure that you are getting what you are paying for and that the diamonds will be of the quality you want!
Precious Metal Hallmarks
Next, look out for a hallmark. A hallmark is a mark stamped into the precious metal of your jewellery. If you are buying from a UK based retailer such as All Diamond, look out for a UK hallmark. This official stamp tells you exactly what quality of precious metal has been used in your jewellery. In the UK, it is legal to sell jewellery with hallmarks from some other countries, but the familiarity and reputation of UK assay laboratories give extra peace of mind.
Warranties and Returns
With some regular maintenance, high-quality jewellery can last for generations of everyday wear. At All Diamond, we offer a lifetime warranty on all our diamond jewellery. We are confident in the work of our UK based designers and artisans, but if your jewellery fails due to manufacturing issues we will take care of it in the years to come!
You can rely on our product photos to reveal what your jewellery will look like and with our diamond certificates and UK hallmarks you can depend upon the quality of the materials we use. But it might be that the diamond ring you purchased might not look as you expected it when you place it on your finger. For that reason, when you buy online, look out for retailers who offer the opportunity to return purchases for refunds or exchange! At All Diamond, we give you 30 days to make sure you love what you buy from us.
