You Can Bring Diamond Jewellery Within Your Reach - Here's How
Diamond jewellery is among our most prized possessions, but it comes with a price, usually a heavy one. A diamond ring is an ideal engagement gift, but usually expensive, especially if you are after a larger-carat diamond. Fortunately, there are tips that could help you bring diamond jewellery within your reach.
Jewellery Budgets And Buying Options
Start by identifying how much you are willing to spend on your jewellery purchase. Shop around. Do not immediately settle for the first store or website that you see. Buying second-hand jewellery can also be an option. Compare their price offers. You could also look at different internet sites selling brand-new and second-hand Jewellery. Some caution needs to be exercised when buying Jewellery online. When shopping online, always read the fine print. Make sure that guarantees, delivery times and product quality all meet your needs. If you are looking at jewellery from traditional high-street jewellers, be very careful about the labelling of the jewellery. We have seen that some retailers use descriptions of their gemstones that are somewhat misleading or very hard to find.
Sales And Discounts - Choose Your Moment!
Timing is important when you are looking for diamond jewellery or any other jewellery. Most retailers give discounts before the holiday season (we usually have a Black Friday event). However, whenever you buy pieces of jewellery, check if the item you buy can be returned. Some retailers or companies would offer jewellery at reasonable prices but with a fine print that it cannot be returned. In the UK, when you buy online, you have a legal right of return, but this is not the case when you buy at a traditional jewellery shop on the high street or at a shopping mall.

Learn The Diamond Basics
Before you go ahead and visit any kind of jewellery store, do your homework. The sheer quantity of diamond jewellery on display could be overwhelming. Still, the apparent array of items can often be misleading, and the real amount of choice for items that meet your needs may be much smaller.
Jewellers often refer to the 4 Cs: cut, clarity, carat and colour. Getting familiar with the 4 Cs will help you get a good deal. Let’s take the cut of the diamond. Diamond cut quality will directly affect the cost of a piece of diamond jewellery, with higher-quality cutting being more costly than lower-graded diamonds. The complexity of the diamond shape also affects the cost. An emerald-cut diamond could be less expensive compared with princess-cut or round brilliant diamonds.
Colour could also help you in getting a better deal. When buying diamond earrings or other diamond jewellery. Most diamonds are not pure white but have an absolutely normal but generally unnoticeable touch of yellow. True colourless diamonds with a Colourless grade from D-F are more expensive than those in the G-J Near Colourless range. Most people cannot tell the difference between an F or G colour graded diamond unless they are seen side by side. As the colour grade gets lower, the yellow colouration becomes more obvious.
You can save on the colour grade and get away with lower-grade diamonds, especially on items such as earrings.

Although we want clear diamonds, since better clarity gives the diamond a livelier, brighter sparkle and better overall visual performance, small internal flaws, often called inclusions, will not hurt, especially if the diamond is “eye clean” that is, any internal flaws are invisible to the naked eye. Diamonds that have small and few marks tend to be relatively inexpensive. For a diamond that will be unlikely to have any visible internal flaws buy diamonds with a clarity grade in the range of VS1 to VS2. Most of our diamond jewellery falls into this grade range. Don’t worry; if you choose a lower clarity grade, those marks are difficult to see by the naked eye, especially if the diamonds are not small or are used in pieces such as earrings or pendants, and you can save money.
When it comes to carat size, to stay within your budget, you could go for a less than one-carat diamond. Highlighting or enlarging a small cut diamond depends on the setting. There are ways to make a small diamond appear larger, for example, by nestling it in a bezel setting. Another kind of setting that will make the diamond appear larger would be using a halo setting where the central diamond is surrounded by multiple small diamonds that add to the sparkle of the diamond and, from a small distance, make the diamond look larger. These small side or accent stones are relatively inexpensive, so you can get a piece of jewellery that looks more impressive than the price you paid!
If you are after an engagement ring, you could also look at the ring’s precious metal. Engagement rings in the UK tend to be in white, so white gold and platinum are the preferred choices. Rings with white gold bands cost less than those with platinum bands.
Avoid buying an engagement ring made with silver, it will be much less costly, but the softness of silver means that the ring will almost certainly be damaged in daily wear and will need regular cleaning to remove tarnish.

Seek Out Package Discounts
Outside of the ring’s precious stones and metal specifications, there is another option to consider. Some jewellers offer discount prices if you buy the engagement and wedding rings together. That can give a worthwhile saving overall. Of course, if you go down this path, the initial expenditure might be higher as you will be buying three rings simultaneously, but the discounts offered might be substantial!
Alternatives To Diamonds
If all of these fail to get you within your spending limit, then you could always consider other stones. Other kinds of stones are not as expensive as diamonds but just as beautiful, such as sapphires, opals, tanzanite, morganite, topaz, rubies, or any kind of gemstone. After all, diamond jewellery is only the expression of what you feel; it is what you feel that matters. When you use other gemstones, it is a good idea to choose designs that incorporate small diamonds as accent stones in a halo or side stones on the shanks of the gold or platinum band.
When it comes to diamond alternatives, we do not suggest buying crystals or "fake" diamonds for important items such as engagement rings. They might look impressive at first glance, but the person wearing the jewellery will always know that it is not real and, probably, in time, so will other people. Fine jewellery is something to be worn with pride. That's why on a budget, we suggest other real gemstones in which the owner can have pride of ownership.
